THE TIBRA PHILOSOPHY
If you breed animals, whether
it is cattle, dogs or sheep or any other animal, you must have a
philosophy. Sometimes this philosophy can also be defined as a
dream, but you must have this vision. Otherwise you are nothing but
a gene multiplier. These goals that you set for yourself must
include all aspects of your breeding operation. The entire picture
must be in your head from breeding goals to marketing.
The Breeding:
Breeding Rottweilers in my view is a
passion. There is no other canine breed like the Rottweiler. Once
Rottweiler always Rottweiler. You either love them or you hate them,
no middle ground.
The arguments
against Rottweilers include statements such as a lack of trust in
these dogs or that they are not good with children. The facts.
Rottweilers are big dogs. It has the ability to kill, so does any
large dog. Respect them, they can be the best friend, and will give
their life without a blink, but they are not toys.
We must face the
fact that some dogs have bad temperaments and there are certain
Rottweiler lines that are known for their bad temperament. By saying
this one must never confuse the will to protect with a bad
temperament. TIBRA doesn’t own a dog with a bad temperament.
The question of
size? Size does matter. We like a large Rottweiler. If I could breed
them four feet tall, weighing a 100 kg with a strong head - I would.
There is one problem though, the bigger they get the more faults
they have. Our goal is to breed them large without the faults.
That’s why you might see we have smaller dogs, or dogs with heads
that are not that strong, but we tolerate this because they have
other good points. Points that we would like to breed into their
offspring. Some of our dogs will never make it in the show ring
because they are not “crowd-pleasers” but we selected or kept them
because of their background. Their family has some trait that we
want to breed into the big picture. Every dog that we breed has a
strong point that we can defend.
For meaningful
selection towards a breeding goal you must have numbers. The bigger
and diverse your base is, the quicker you will progress towards your
goal. That is a fact. We live on a farm, we have the space and as
long as we can manage the operation we will expand to a point.
MARKETING
Here our viewpoint is clear. We are
striving to breed quality at a reasonable price for the market.
We have also
introduced a price structure to accommodate everybody; the breeders,
pet owners and people who would buy it as a pet and maybe later want
to breed. This structure is laid out in our contract of sale.
We try to keep in
touch with all our clients and monitor our dogs although it is not
always that easy due to the size of our overall farming operation.
Our clients must feel free to give us feedback and send us
pictures.
Always remember!
There goes a lot of planning, love, money, time and dedication into
breeding that puppy that you now own. He will become a very big part
of your life but he carries the TIBRA name and therefore we would
love to stay involved if you would let us. |
